Emergency Measures Provided by USCIS for Nepali Nationals

|

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake which shook Nepal to its core on April 25, 2015 has created a crisis for those who were made homeless. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has decided to take certain measures to help Nepali nationals dislocated by the quake. These actions are generally meant to facilitate the process of obtaining or renewing green cards.

These measures include:

  • Expedited processing of advance parole requests
  • Expedited adjudication of employment authorization applications, and of requests for off-campus employment authorization for F-1 students with severe economic hardship
  • Help with replacing lost or damaged immigration or travel documents issued by USCIS
  • Consideration for waivers of fees associated with USCIS benefit applications based on an inability to pay
  • Allowing for a change or extension of nonimmigrant status for anyone now in the U.S. even if the request is filed after the authorized period of admission has expired.

If you or loved one is looking to obtain a visa and come to the U.S. or is already in the country on a visa, speak with a Dallas immigration attorney as soon as you can who can explain USCIS regulations in greater detail.
