Temporary Protected Status Extended for Honduras & Nicaragua

Effective July 6, 2016, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an additional 18 months for eligible nationals of Honduras and Nicaragua. This also includes those who are not eligible, but last habitually lived in Nicaragua and Honduras. This extension is effective from July 6, 2016 through January 5, 2018.

Info for Current TPS Honduras & Nicaragua Beneficiaries

It is important that you re-register during the 60-day re-registration period from May 16, 2016 to July 15, 2016. The USCIS recommends that current beneficiaries re-register as quickly as possible.

You are also able to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as a part of this 18-month extension. If you re-register during the 60-day provisional period, you will receive a new EAD that will expire January 5, 2018.

For those EADs that expire on July 5, 2016, the USCIS is automatically extending these EAD's expiration dates by an additional 6 months to allow time for you to receive your new EAD. You are now able to use these until January 5, 2017.
