Mediation Lawyer in Dallas

What is divorce mediation?

In Texas, divorce mediation is a confidential process where a neutral third person (the mediator) helps divorcing couples come to a mutually satisfactory divorce settlement. Mediation addresses matters concerning child custody and support, visitation, alimony, and property division. The mediator does not act as a judge, attorney, or counselor, but assists the spouses in reaching a voluntary agreement.

Mr. Sanjay Mathur founded the Mathur Law Offices, P.C., in 1995, since that time we have continuously guided clients through the divorce and mediation process. We believe that mediation is an excellent tool for divorcing couples, especially when there are contentious issues. Our goal is to help you reach a satisfactory agreement with your spouse, without having to endure a costly trial.

How Mediation is Used in Texas Divorce Cases

An attempt at mediation is strongly recommend or required in many Texas counties, namely because it is one of the most popular methods of negotiation a property or child custody agreement in Texas. Mediation has many benefits, including:

  • Mediation has a high success rate, especially when both spouses are open to compromise
  • It is confidential.
  • You and your spouse are in control of the outcome, not a judge.
  • You have more flexibility when it comes to making your own decisions.
  • Your attorney can answer your legal questions and review the proposed divorce settlement agreement to ensure your rights are fully protected.

What if mediation doesn't work?

If you and your spouse are unable to reach an agreement during mediation, your case will probably end up in court. In such cases, the judge will make the final decisions on any remaining divorce issues.

If there is a history of domestic violence in your marriage, you may not be a good candidate for mediation; for example, if you're a victim of domestic violence, your spouse may try to intimidate you with threats in order to get you to accept an unfair agreement. If you are in this situation, you should contact our Dallas divorce lawyers for help.
