As many of you have already read, the U.S. Government has required, and is continuing to require, male non-citizens who entered the United States on non-immigrant visas to register at designated INS offices. Registration includes being fingerprinted, photographed and questioned under oath. The law requires males, mostly over the age of 16, who entered into the United States on non-permanent resident visas to register. This includes all visas that begin with an alphabet, such as B, E, F, H ....etc. There are exceptions for those who entered on an A or G visa. The countries required to register have been divided thus far into three groups. There have been different deadlines for each group. Currently Saudi Arabian and Pakistani male citizens are undergoing registraton, as Group 3. The deadline for Group 3 is February 21, 2003. Please review these prior groups in prior articles on this site. Now, the INS has added Group 4 to the list. All males who meet the requirements of age and entry requirements mentioned and who plan on staying in the United States after March 8, 2003, who are from Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Bangladesh and Indonesia must now register. The first date for these persons to register is January 27, 2003, the last date is March 8, 2003. Furthermore,
the INS has extended the deadline for persons in Group 1 and Group 2
to register. The deadline has been extended for these persons
until February 7, 2003. Individual consultation with regard to
special registration is strongly recommended. By no means should
any reader rely on solely this article in determining whether registration
is advisable or necessary. |
