The INS has announced special registration for Pakistan and Saudi male citizens. Men who in the United States as visitors, or who entered on non-immigrant visas must register with the INS if they are planning on staying in the United States past February 21, 2003. Registration begins on January 13, 2003 and continues until that February 21, 2003. Registerants are expected to go to one of the INS' designated field office and be questioned under oath, photographed and fingerprinted. Failure to register may cause deportation, denial of adjustments of status and even criminal charges. Persons who are considering registration, would be well advised to check with their immigration attorney prior to registering. Attorneys may be able to provide their clients with valuable advice as what to expect. It is important to note that women are not required to register and that neither are those who entered without inspection. Registration applies mostly to males who entered on non-immigrant visa petitions. |
