U.S. Government Reveals Harsher Asylum Regulations

|

In what is being deemed an “interim rule,” the Trump administration recently announced a new regulation for asylum seekers coming to the U.S. This new rules prohibits refugees from claiming asylum in the U.S. if they have traveled through a 3rd country, as the majority of recently detained immigrants are from countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. This temporary regulation is meant to severely limit the ability to claim asylum in the U.S. for anyone who has passed through other nations on their journey to the states.

This “interim rule” is being argued as a necessary implementation to prevent the overwhelming masses of immigrants who are attempting to enter the U.S. through Mexico. Because previous endeavors to restrict the influx of migrant families have proved unsuccessful, this new regulation is also being weaponized against Congress in an effort to push for stricter immigration control.
